Treatable Ocular Conditions

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease that damages your eye’s optic nerve. It usually happens when fluid builds up in the front part of your eye. That extra fluid increases the pressure in your eye, damaging the optic nerve.

Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. It is the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40 and is the principal cause of blindness in the world.

Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is caused by the deterioration of the central portion of the retina, the inside back layer of the eye that records the images we see and sends them via the optic nerve from the eye to the brain.

Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic condition associated with abnormally high levels of sugar (glucose) in the blood. Insulin produced by the pancreas lowers blood glucose. Absence or insufficient production of insulin, or an inability of the body to properly use insulin causes diabetes.

Amblyopia
Amblyopia, also known as lazy eye, is a vision development disorder in which an eye fails to achieve normal visual acuity, even with prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses. Amblyopia begins during infancy and early childhood. In most cases, only one eye is affected.

Foreign Body Removal
A foreign object in the eye is something that enters the eye from outside the body. It can be anything, from a particle of dust to a metal shard. Most foreign object injuries usually are minor. However, some types of foreign objects can cause infection or damage your vision.
